The demand for power for domestic, irrigation, rural other public and industrial purpose has increased manifold in past few years. As such many industries have opted for Captive Power Plants which are generating units at reduced cost to be competitive in the market and even in certain instances allowing some owners to sell surplus power to the national power grid. The industrialists prefer to concentrate on their core business and as such outsource the operation and maintenance of Captive Power Plants to professional in this field. The Operating agencies provide Operation and Maintenance service to several power plants and have reservoir of resources i.e. lifting & shifting equipment, earth moving equipments, sturdy and reliable transport equipments as well as employ experienced, trained and qualified manpower. The Operating agencies develop proper monitoring system and extend services related to shutdown, Overhauling of Machinery, Minor electrical and instruments works etc also as per scope of the work pre-decided with the Owner. Depending upon the nature of the contract between the Operating Agency and the Owner, the planning and yearly procurement of fuel, lubricants, oil, consumables and other materials required for normal Operation & Maintenance, Statutory Shut down period, regular and repair maintenance, overhauling etc are decided and executed as per contract. Similarly the entire manning of the Power Plant by the Agency or retaining of Supervision and managerial function with the Owner and balance operational part of the power plant is off loaded to the Operator as per mutually agreed terms of scope of work between the parties.
