Amendments in Special Scholarship Scheme for Jammu & Kashmir approved

Earlier this scheme was open to only those students who passed the Class XII or the equivalent exam from the J&K Board.

This would increase the inclusivity of the scheme and would make many more students eligible to avail of the benefit under this scheme. This revision would be effective from the academic year 2011-12.

Hindi as Official Language of UN

A high level Committee under the Chairmanship of the External Affairs Minister was constituted on 26 February, 2003 followed by a sub-Committee under the chairmanship of the Minister of State for External Affairs in August, 2003 to look into this matter and take necessary measures. New Engineering Colleges

As part of its mandate to impart quality education, the AICTE has decided to consider proposals for establishing new institutions from the academic year 2014-15, after reviewing the status on the basis of the prospective plans received from State Governments.

Education to Girls

 

 

Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and the National Programme for Education of Girls at Elementary Level (NPEGEL) provide for targeted provisions to promote education of girls. These include encouraging States to recruit 50% women teachers from among teachers sanctioned under SSA, providing for an ‘Innovation fund’ per district, which can inter alia be utilized for need based interventions to ensure better attendance and retention of girls, free textbooks and uniforms up to class VIII, separate toilets for girls, development of model schools in clusters, bridge courses for older girls, early childhood care and education centers in/near schools in convergence

As per the mandate given to AICTE in the AICTE Act, 1987, norms and standards are framed by the Council to regulate the technical institutions, including management institutions in the country for maintaining quality in these institutions.  The approvals for establishing new institutions etc. are granted on the basis of prescribed norms for infrastructure facilities and faculty etc.  These norms and standards are uniformly applicable to all the colleges, irrespective of their location.

Steps to eradicate Educational Backwardness of Muslims

 

In order to improve literacy rate amongst Muslims, which is 59% as per 2001 Census, the Ministry of Minority Affairs is awarding Pre-matric Scholarship, Post-matric Scholarship, Merit-cum-means Based Scholarship and Maulana Azad National Fellowship exclusively to Minority students. The Ministry of Human Resource Development has undertaken schemes for Providing Quality Education in Madarsas (SPQEM), Infrastructure Development of Minority Institutions (IDMI), Establishment of Residential Coaching Academies for Minorities/ SC/ ST and Women, Establishment of Urdu Academy/ Centre for Professional Development of Urdu Teachers, Establishment of a satellite campus of Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), Hyderabad, Establishment of Model Degree


Professional and Computer Training Programme by National Minorities Development and Finance Corporation

 

. Giving this information in written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, Shri Vincent H. Pala, Minister of State for Minority Affairs, said that the trades in which training is to be given are identified by the respective State Channelising Agencies (SCAs) depending upon the local needs and employment potential; and training is organized through Government owned/ recognized training institutions.

Higher Education for Poor Students

 

 The Central Government has launched a new Central Scheme to provide full interest subsidy during the period of moratorium on educational loans for students belonging to economically weaker sections (with parental family income from all sources up to Rs. 4.5 lakh annually) from Scheduled Banks under the Educational Loan Scheme of the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) for pursuing courses of studies in professional/technical streams from recognized institutions in India.  The scheme is effective from the academic year 2009-2010.  The Scheme is based solely on income criteria and not social background.  The details of the Scheme are available on this


Functioning of Universities In India

 

State Private Universities are established by Acts of the concerned State legislatures. At present these are regulated by the UGC as per provisions contained in the UGC (Establishment and Maintenance of Standards in Private Universities), Regulations, 2003. These private universities are inspected by the UGC with the help of concerned Statutory Council(s). Out of the 111 State Private Universities, the UGC Expert Committees have already visited 53.
